I am Lee Cloer and I am Cloer Design. I graduated
from Western Carolina University in May of 2001 with a BFA in
Graphic Design. But my experience began long before graduation,
long before landing that first job that helped me jump into
the design field. No, this story begins in a swamp in the lowlands
of South Carolina.
On October 23rd of 1988 I tripped over myself evacuating a
Greyhound Bus at 11:20 PM, a beast of a man pushing me with
his booming voice from behind, blasting my ears with commands
to ‘Move, Move, Move!’ and ‘what are you
looking at? You find something interesting about me boy?’
I stood shakily on yellow footprints painted on the pavement
in front of a large two story brick building that was the
initial entry point to 15 weeks of a world that even TV cannot
provide justice. I was standing at the best form of attention
I knew in my slimy civilian experience, but you would not
know that to hear the Drill Instructor tell it in my left
ear. I now became part the environment that is Parris Island,
Recruit Training Depot for the U.S. Marine Corps. My slack
civilian attitude, not to mention my hair, would soon part
from me.
My four years as a Nuclear Biological and Chemical Defense
Specialist provided its ups and downs as life always does.
I have traveled around the world on the Marine Corps ticket.
I passed through the Suez Canal on the USS Nassau, an amphibious
aircraft carrier, on my way to Desert Storm. Israel, Dubai,
Abu Dhabi, Oman, Rota, Spain, were just a few of the places
my fellow Marines and I have found trouble in.
After the Marine Corps, I worked eight years for the U.S.
Forest Service as a Residential Advisor. At L.B.J. Job Corps
Center in Franklin, NC I worked full-time in the evening while
going to school full-time during the day. At L.B.J., I was
responsible for the health, safety and welfare of forty-four
men, sixteen to twenty-four years of age. I conducted classes,
acted as a social worker, mentor and ensured a safe environment
for this twenty-four hour, seven day a week training center.
I have been the Art Director for Dnet Internet Services Web
Design Team since December of 2001. I work closely with the
Web Administrator and Marketing Director of Dnet Internet
Services. Our Web Services Team consists of two Web Developers,
the Web Administrator, and myself.
I am involved in a number of community service organizations.
I am Commandant of the Marine Corps League, member of American
Legion and the Legion’s Honor Guard Detail, who are
responsible for burials of any Veteran that requests a Military
Funeral. I am Assistant Coordinator of the Franklin Toys for
Tots Program; assisting with coaching of local softball teams
and I am active in Holly Springs Baptist Church. I am also
a board member of BRAVOS, Blue Ridge Advocates for Veterans
Outpatient Services, who have been responsible for an VA Outpatient
Clinic being located in the future in Franklin, NC.
I met my wife, Wendi, at Southwestern Community College and
we married March 4 of 1995. We have two wonderful children,
Audra Fai, born May 31st of 2001, right after I graduated
college, and a boy Caleb Lee, who just recently joined us
November 5th of 2004. We also have a big 90 lb. Yellow Labrador
named Cheyenne, two Russian Blue cats, Calamity and Belle,
and 55 gallon fish tank with about 12 fish. It's our little
animal kingdom.
They say if you can find a job that you really enjoy, then
you can really enjoy life. Sometimes I find it hard to believe
people pay me to draw so I truly enjoy what I do. I get to
be creative and I also enjoy the pleasures of a wonderful
family. What more can I ask for...
